Binaural beats, also known as binaural tones, are sounds that can alter your brainwaves. It is thought that part of the brain is where our ability to hear in three dimensions and the ability to track moving sounds is stored. regions that are activated are the thalamus, putamen, anterior insula, subcortically, ventral prefrontal cortex, bilateral SII, bilateral opercular premotor areas and primary sensorimotor and cingulate areas.

When the beat frequency that is heard corresponds to the delta, theta, alpha, beta or gamma range of the brainwave frequencies, the brainwave move towards the beat frequency. So if a 330 is played into the left ear and a 340 is played into the right ear, the brain moves to the beat frequency (10Hz, in the alpha range). The alpha range is associated with relaxation, so this binaural tone with have a relaxing effect.
